Why are Montessori programs 5 days a week?

Montessori childcare is more than childcare... it is a way of life. A child in a Montessori program becomes an integral part of that community. Children also benefit from a consistent daily rhythm. This consistency allows the child to focus and benefit from being introduced to activities. In contrast, a child who attends sporadically or just a few days a week has to adjust anew every time. With this disruption children are not easily accustomed to separating from his/her parents, have difficulty relating to staff and other children, have difficulty adjusting to the rhythm of the classroom, and it is difficult for the staff to recognize and plan activities to continue to assist in the development and growth of the child.

"Certainly there is something that compels a teacher to advise very young students continually; ultimately she must be resigned to quelling every bit of vanity, or she will obtain no results."
